Economy3 launches Shopify app that turns product compliance into a sales channel

Merchants publish signed product records that AI shopping agents can read — and that answer California SB 707 and the EU Digital Product Passport from the same data SAN FRANCISCO — July 28, 2026 — Economy3 today released Agentic Product Passports, a Shopify app that converts a merchant's existing catalog into signed, machine-readable product records. The records serve three budgets at once: agent discovery, advertising substantiation, and regulatory compliance. The app syncs a merchant's catalog and extracts 17 structured field groups from copy the merchant has already written — fibre content, weight, origin, care, certifications. It never invents a fact. The merchant confirms each extracted field, and the confirmed record publishes to a resolver page the brand owns, with a printable QR code for the care label. Every product then shows one of four colour signals: red, amber, green, or grey. Grey means a fact is missing. One tap sends a proof request to the supplier, who signs from a phone in fifteen seconds — no account, no software, no cost. The grey turns green everywhere that fact appears. "Brands have been paying auditors to reconstruct facts from PDFs months after the work was done," said Scott, founder of Economy3. "We sign the work at the source. The compliance record is a byproduct, and it is now the asset that gets the product found." The launch lands against two dated obligations. California SB 707 reporting is live. The EU textile Digital Product Passport takes effect in July 2027. One Economy3 record answers both. The same record also feeds MCP endpoints and agent feeds, where AI shopping agents match on structured product context rather than advertising copy. "Suppliers refuse traceability portals because disclosure feels like exposure," said Caroline, co-founder. "Ours costs them nothing, installs nothing, and lets them choose what each buyer sees. They sign one lot record and supply everyone from it." Records are content-addressed and survive replatforming, domain changes, and discontinued seasons. Post-sale events persist: ownership transfer, buy-back, and resale run through the same record, so the brand keeps the customer and the margin on the second sale. The app is built on W3C JSON-LD, W3C Verifiable Credentials, GS1 EPCIS, UNTP, and Holochain. The codebase is open source and forkable. Economy3 has been running the system with Urmul Desert Crafts, a weaving project in Rajasthan, where 34 supplier-attested facts are approved, published, and publicly scannable. Agentic Product Passports is available today in the Shopify App Store. The app is free for up to 10 SKUs, with paid tiers from $49 per month. About Economy3 Economy3 builds verified provenance and commerce infrastructure for makers, brands, and smallholder producers. The company signs facts at the point of work, making bookkeeping, compliance, sustainability reporting, and agent-readable product context byproducts of a single act. Economy3 is open source and standards-first. economy3.org Media contact Scott Frankum Scott@Economy3.org · +1 323 497 6426
